Prisoner of conscience, Juvêncio Mazzarollo, a journalist, was released from detention in Curitiba on 6 April 1984 after serving eighteen months of a four year prison sentence under Articles 42 and 33 of the (unamended) Law of National Security. He had staged a hunger-strike in protest against his continued detention.
