In the Americas laws there is an entrenched discriminatory attitude against Indigenous peoples. On the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People, Amnesty International wishes to highlight a few of the cases documented across the region that demonstrate the situation of many communities, as well as the dignity and determination with which they defend their rights. In this document the organization calls upon leaders in the region to take decisive and urgent action to fulfil their obligations to defend and protect Indigenous peoples’ rights.
