South Africa: Failing to learn the lessons? The impact of COVID-19 on a broken and unequal education system

Beyond this devasting toll, the socio-economic impacts on the country have been multiple and far-reaching. In this report, Amnesty International focuses, in particular on, the impact that the pandemic has had on the right to education. The government needs to put human rights at the heart of its COVID-19 policies, plans and response in order to ensure that all children regardless of their status and circumstances can benefit from a decent education and the life opportunities it can bring.
