Somalia: Human rights violations and abuses persist: Amnesty International Submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review
In this submission, Amnesty International expresses concerns about the violation of international human rights by all parties to the ongoing armed conflict. Insecurity persists, civilians continue to be at risk of targeted attacks and indiscriminate fire, while women and children face gender based violence. Despite the adoption by the government of action plans to prevent the recruitment of child soldiers, children continue to be recruited. Other concerns include discrimination against persons with disabilities and internally displaced personsas well as the resumption of executions in Somaliland, after a nine year moratorium on the death penalty.
