The above-named is a 34-year-old doctor who was arrested between 28 June and 1 July 1987. He has been detained since then in secret without charge or trial. His arrest appears to be partly due to his ethnic origin: Dr Amoli is a member of the Hadjerai group, over 180 of whom are believed to be in political detention in Chad. Another reason for his arrest may have been his friendship with Haroun Gody, a leader of the Mouvement du salut national du Tchad (MOSANAT), Movement for the National Salvation of Chad, an armed opposition group which draws its support mainly from the Hadjerai community.
