Chad: Time to narrow the gap between rhetoric and practices: Amnesty International Submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review

In this submission, Amnesty International notes the failure of Chad to implement recommendations accepted during its previous UPR. The organization also raises concern regarding the transfer of judges without consent, the draft media law and the mandate of the National Human Rights Commission. With reference to the current human rights situation, Amnesty International expresses concerns about enforced disappearances, violence against women and children, child soldiers, harsh prison conditions, deaths in custody, torture and ill-treatment, arbitrary arrest and detention, attacks against human rights defenders, treats against journalists and political opponents, and forced evictions.
