Burundi: Rapid descent into a human rights crisis: Amnesty International Submission for the UN Universal Periodic Review, 29th session of the UPR Working Group, January 2018

Amnesty International is concerned about human rights gaps in national legislation, lack of independence of the National Human Rights Commission, and impunity for past human rights violations. Amnesty International also raises concerns about extrajudicial executions, enforced disappearances, torture and other ill-treatment, arbitrary arrest, harassment of human rights defenders, and restrictions on the rights to freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly.
