Burundi: New administration’s broken promises to improve human rights: Amnesty International: Submission to the 43rd session of the UPR Working Group, 4 May 2023

In this submission, Amnesty International evaluates the implementation of recommendations made to Burundi in its previous UPR, including on extrajudicial and unlawful killings, enforced disappearances, torture and other ill-treatment, arbitrary arrests, attacks against human rights defenders, and shrinking of civic space. It also assesses the national human rights framework regarding efforts to address cybercrimes, sexual and gender-based violence, past human rights violations through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and the promotion and protection of human rights through the National Independent Human Rights Commission.
