Pascal Ntako, senior PARENA official: The nine men named above were arrested on 8 and 9 March 1997 in Bujumbura, on suspicion of involvement in a plot to assassinate President Buyoya. Amnesty International is investigating reports that their arrests may be politically motivated, and there is concern at reports that they have been tortured. At least 40 other people are also reported to have been arrested in connection with the alleged plot.
