Africa: Human Rights Situation in Africa

Amnesty International welcomes the convening of the 73rd ordinary session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, the first in-person session in more than two years.
In this statement, Amnesty International highlights the issue of ensuring rights and justice for survivors of sexual violence in Ethiopia, Guinea and South Sudan. Contrary to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, its Protocol on the Rights of Women in Africa, and the African Commission’s Guidelines on Combating Sexual Violence and its Consequences in Africa, sexual violence in the three countries continues to be perpetrated
