Amnesty International learned of 4,272 prisoners executed in 39 countries and of 7,107 people sentenced to death in 76 countries in 1996. These figures include only cases known to Amnesty International; the true figures are certainly higher. This is a list of countries which imposed death sentences and which carried out executions in 1996.
