Syria: detained Syrian writer at risk of torture

Kurdish writer and pro-reform activist, Hussein ‘Essou, aged 59, has been held incommunicado since his arrest in al-Hasakah, north-eastern Syria, on 3 September 2011. He suffers from a heart condition and may not be receiving the regular medication he requires. He is at risk of torture and other ill-treatment.
