Syria: Further information: Syrian "Peace Brides" released from detention
Four Syrian women who had been arrested while peacefully demonstrating as "Peace Brides" were released on 9 January. Their release is part of a prisoner exchange whereby 48 Iranian hostages held by an armed opposition group were released in exchange for the agreement to release a reported 2,130 civilians held by the Syrian authorities.
