The rate of executions in Saudi Arabia has risen sharply in the last two years. Death sentences are often imposed at the end of a largely secret and grossly unfair trial process. Many of the defendants are sentenced after being convicted of non-violent or vaguely worded offences. Amnesty International calls on the Saudi Arabian government to declare an immediate moratorium on executions and bring the country’s legal and judicial practices into line with international standards.
