Over the past two years widespread human rights abuses have taken place in the areas under the jurisdiction of the Palestinian Authority including large-scale arbitrary arrests, prolonged detention without charge or trial of hundreds of political detainees and the increasingly widespread use of torture. Amnesty International condemns deliberate and arbitrary killings of civilians and recognizes that the Palestinian Authority has both a right and a duty to bring to justice those responsible for such acts. AI urges the Palestinian Authority to take swift and concrete action to ensure that the abuses described in this document are ended.
