Israel and Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT): Update of the Briefing to the Committee against Torture
Complementary to the briefing previously sent to the Committee, this update focuses on Amnesty International’s concerns about Israel’s failure to respect the provisions of the Convention against Torture particularly during the 22-day Israeli military campaign from 27 December 2008 to 18 January 2009 (operation “Cast Lead”). Amnesty International is of the view that the several types of practices routinely resorted to by Israeli forces during the conflict amounted to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment against Palestinians.
