Kurdistan Region of Iraq: Investigate death of Yazidi protester

, Index number: MDE 14/6020/2017

Amnesty International has called on the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to conduct a prompt, impartial and thorough investigation into the killing of 21-year-old Nazeh Nayef Qawal, a Yazidi woman. The killing occurred on 14 March during a violent dispersal of protesters, at a checkpoint between Khanasor and Snuny, north of Sinjar Mountain, in north-west Iraq. Amnesty International is concerned that on 15 March KRG security forces raided the offices of a non-governmental organization based in Erbil, capital of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KR-I), and forced its staff and guests who were attending a seminar there to leave the building.
