Iraq: Crisis looms for refugees (Web Feature)
The Middle East is on the verge of a new humanitarian crisis with over three million people forcibly displaced by the conflict in Iraq. Iraqi refugees have flooded into Syria and Jordan. As well as direct aid, Amnesty International (AI) also calls on the US, EU and other states to establish resettlement programmes that assist Iraqi refugees in starting new lives away from the conflict zone and provide protection for rejected asylum seekers. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis who have become internally displaced are also in need of assistance.
