Amnesty International is gravely concerned at reports in an Iranian newspaper
that the Supreme Court in Iran has confirmed the sentences of death and flogging
passed against the above three men. The organization fears that they are at
imminent risk of execution and of flogging prior to execution, and that one
of them may have already been executed.
FURTHER RECOMMENDED ACTION: Please send telegrams/faxes/express or airmail
letters in English, French or in your own language:
- expressing extreme concern that the death sentences against Hedayatollah
Zendehdel, Abolghasem Majd-Abkhahi, Alireza Yazdanshenas have been confirmed,
and that one of the men may have already been executed;
- calling for these death sentences to be commuted immediately,
- calling for the commutation of all other pending death sentences in Iran;
- drawing attention to world trends to abolish or reduce the use of the death
penalty, the desirability of which was reaffirmed in Resolution 32/61 of 8
December 1977 of the United Nations General Assembly;

you believe flogging contravenes Article 7 of the International Covenant on
