The human rights of women in the United Nations: developments 1993-1994
The UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women on 20 December 1993. This paper provides a discussion of the Declaration and on its relevance to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. It also comments on the appointment of the Special Rapporteur on violence against women, Ms Radika Coomaraswamy. The text of the Declaration on the elimination of violence against women is appended.
