Proposed criteria for selection of candidates for membership of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention: Amnesty International joint written statement to the 24th session of the UN Human Rights Council (9 – 27 September 2013)
The President of the Human Rights Council will appoint two members of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention by the middle of 2014. In addition to general criteria, Human Rights Council decision 6/102 establishes four technical and objective requirements (qualifications, relevant expertise, established competence and flexibility/readiness and availability of time) to be considered in the selection of Special Procedures mandate-holders. This checklist is intended as an interpretive aid for those requirements.
