This document sets out the Oral Intervention of Amnesty International, ESCR-Net, Human Rights Watch, International Commission of Jurists, International Federation for Human Rights and focuses on three central points. These are that: expansion of global markets has not been matched with protection for people and communities who are victims of corporate human rights abuses; State do not fully understand their duty to protect against corporate human rights abuses; an over-reliance on voluntary initiatives as a means of safeguarding victims of such abuses is inappropriate.
