Uzbekistan: Consideration of the Fourth Universal Periodic Report on Uzbekistan: Open letter to UN Human Rights Committee
This open letter provides information to the United Nations Human Rights Committee ahead of its examination in July 2015 of Uzbekistan’s fourth periodic report on the implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). It summarises the key findings of the report on torture in Uzbekistan published by Amnesty International in April 2015, in the context of Uzbekistan’s implementation of the ICCPR and highlights Amnesty International’s concerns about failures of the authorities in Uzbekistan to respect and protect the rights guaranteed in the Covenant. The letter also complements other submissions to the Human Rights Committee by independent domestic and international NGOs with which Amnesty International cooperates.
