Uzbekistan: Human Rights Defenders and Freedom of Expression at risk: Appeal case

In this document Amnesty International expresses its concern that recent unrest has been used by the Uzbekistani authorities to justify a further clampdown on dissent and freedom of expression in the name of “national security” and the “war on terror”. Independent civil society activists have been targeted and harassed by the authorities. AI is concerned that they are being subjected to abuse because of their human rights activities such asax trying to document and publicize the reported indiscriminate and excessive use of force by government troops against mainly unarmed civilian demonstrators.
