This report gives details of the cases of Otanazar Aripov and Salavat Umurzakov, two of the six defendants in the so-called “Milli Mejlis” case. They are now serving prison sentences for “conspiracy with the aim of seizing power”. AI has adopted them as prisoners of conscience and is calling for their immediate and unconditional release. The report also gives details of a recent country-wide clampdown against ERK, the outlawed opposition party. An appendix to the report gives information on all the known and possible prisoner of conscience cases taken up by AI in Uzbekistan within the last year.
