UZBEKISTAN: Dmitry Vasilyevich RASSOKHIN
(in cyrillic _______ __________ ________)
Amnesty International has learned that Dmitry Rassokhin has been transferred
from the prison in Tashkent (the capital of Uzbekistan) where he was on death
row awaiting execution for murder. His current whereabouts are unknown, but
from information about procedures for the handling of people sentenced to death
in other former Soviet republics, Amnesty International fears that Dmitry
Rassokhin may have been moved to another prison where his execution will be
carried out. Amnesty International is therefore gravely concerned that Dmitry
Rassokhin's execution may be very close.
Dmitry Rassokhin was sentenced to death by the City Court of Tashkent in July
1992. An ethnic Russian, he was convicted of the premeditated, aggravated
murder of two Uzbek brothers during a drunken brawl. The Supreme Court turned
down his appeal in April 1993. Dmitry Rassokhin has consistently maintained
his innocence. He is reported to have been seriously ill in recent months.
