Ukraine: The death penalty: a cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment
AI welcomes moves to restrict the scope of the death penalty in Ukraine but, as this report shows, remains concerned about the high number of death sentences imposed and executed. Use of the death penalty in Ukraine is still surrounded by secrecy: the authorities are reluctant to provide full the full information required by international standards. This report examines the current state of legislation and practice concerning the death penalty, including moves to restrict its scope. Several individual cases are described.
