AI is concerned that S A Boldyrev may face imminent execution. According to information which first appeared in the newspaper Sovetskaya Kuban on 16 June 1990 and more recently in Sovetskaya Rossiya on 27 August 1992, he was sentenced to death, having been convicted of multiple murder. The trial was conducted by the Krasnodar Territorial Court and lasted five months, concluding at the end of May 1990. His appeal against the sentence has failed and a petition for clemency has been pending with the clemency commission for two years. AI is calling on the Russian authorities to commute the sentence.
