UK(Northern Ireland): The sectarian killing of Robert Hamill

Amnesty International is concerned at the alleged failure of RUC officers to intervene and protect, and to provide first aid to Robert Hamill, a 25-year-old father of three, who was attacked by a large group of Loyalists in Portadown on 27 April 1997. He subsequently died of his injuries on 8 May 1997. There is further concern at the failure of the RUC to investigate the attack promptly and impartially, including their failure to protect the scene of the crime, to secure forensic evidence and issuing misleading press statements.
