Nezahat Ozen has been formally arrested an committed to Diyarbakir Prison. She was reportedly tortured in police custody. Metin Dag and Vehibiye Tuzun, who are still in police custody, are reportedly in bad health as a result of torture. There has been no further information about Gursel Sahin but it is thought that he has been released.

Nezahat Özen has been formally arrested and committed to Diyarbak_r Prison.
She was reportedly tortured in police custody, including being hung up by the
wrists.
Amnesty International has also been informed that Metin Da_ and Vehbiye Tüzün,
who are still in detention, are in bad health as a result of torture. Vehbiye
Tüzün has reportedly suffered a haemorrhage. Under current legislation, Metin
Da_ may be held until 20 October and Vehbiye Tüzün until 2 November. There
has been no further information concerning Gürsel _ahin, but it is thought
that he has been released.
FURTHER RECOMMENDED ACTION: Please send telegrams/faxes/express and airmail
letters
- expressing your concern at reports that Nezahat Özen, Metin Da_ and Vehbiye
Tüzün have been tortured while in detention at the Gendarmerie Regimental
Headquarters in Diyarbak_r;
- urging that Metin Da_ and Vehbiye Tüzün, who are reportedly in ill health
as a result of torture, are given all the medical treatment they may require;
- appealing that the detainees are given access to their families and lawyers;
- asking to be informed of their state of health and of any charges which may
be brought against them.
