Turkey: fear of torture: Bahri Mentes

Bahri Mentes was detained by police on 23 September 1994 while leaving a mosque in Istanbul. His family were informed at first that he had been transferred to Istanbul Maslak Gendarmerie, which, however, denied his detention, despite repeated inquiries. On 4 October 1994 AI received an unconfirmed report that he was being held in Bingol District Gendarmerie in southeast Turkey. No formal charges are reported to have been made.
