Turkey: Medical letter writing action on prisoner of conscience / ill-health / insufficient medical care - Akin Birdal
Akin Birdal, former President of the Turkish Human Rights Association (HRA) and prominent human rights activist, was imprisoned from 3 June until 25 September 1999, and then re-imprisoned on 28 March 2000 despite a report warning of his medical condition. Amnesty International has adopted Akin Birdal as a prisoner of conscience imprisoned for the peaceful expression of his views and is calling for his unconditional release.
