Amnesty International has learned that Ismet Gültekin was released from the
Anti-terror Branch of Police Headquarters in Istanbul on 10 March 2000 and
that Nazife Kaya has reportedly been remanded to prison and is therefore now
unlikely to be at risk of torture or ill-treatment.
The organization has also learned that Ali Gülmez is being detained at the
Gendarmerie in Tokat and not the police headquarters as previously believed.
On 10 March, officials reportedly claimed that Ali Gülmez was the secretary
general of the leftist armed organization TKP/ML-TIKKO and that he was
responsible for making the bomb used in the attempted assassination of the
governor of Cankiri Province in which four people were killed.
On 12 March a lawyer was very briefly allowed access to Ganimet Bozlu, Erol
Gültekin, Nam_k Yüksel and Hayriye ksel at the Anti-terror Branch of Police
Headquarters in Istanbul. He did not have adequate time to find out how they
were being treated but noted that they appeared exhausted.
Please continue appeals as before noting that no further appeals are required
on behalf of Ismet Gültekin or Nazife Kaya.
Appeals on behalf of all those still detained can be made to: the Minister
of the Interior and the Minister of Justice (addresses provided on original).
Appeals on behalf of all those still detained at the Anti-terror Branch of

and should instead be made to:
