TURKRAN 02/92: Turkey: Huseyin Toraman - "disappeared" in Istanbul
Huseyin Toraman, a 25-year-old left-wing political activist, was reportedly detained outside his home in the Kocamustafapasa district of Istanbul by three armed plainclothes officers of the political branch of the Istanbul police on 27 October 1991. It appears that Huseyin Toraman, who was reportedly active on behalf of an illegal political organization, has been wanted by the police since April 1991 at least. Several people witnessed the detention and there are claims that he was seen subsequently in police custody. However, the relevant police authorities still deny holding him or having any knowledge of his present whereabouts. Three members of the Parliamentary Human Rights Commission have been appointed to investgate the case.
