There is grave concern for the safety of Selahattin Gumurcu, a 55-year-old cotton trader, who is believed to have been detained on 25 November 1996 and has not been seen since. His “disappearance” followed an incident in the village of Kurucayir in May 1996 when two village guards were killed. According to the villagers, the village guards held Selahattin Gumurcu responsible for what happened.
