Romania: Broken commitments to human rights
Despite assurances to the international community that it is committed to upholding its international human rights obligations, AI continues to receive reports of human rights violations from Romania. This report highlights AI's major concerns in Romania, namely: restrictions of the right to freedom of expression; imprisonment solely for homosexuality; torture, ill-treatment and deaths in custody; and racist violence against members of the Roma minority. Each of the concerns listed above is discussed with reference to individual cases.
