Conscientious objector Andreas Apostoli Vassilou was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment on 3 February 1995 for refusing to perform military service. He is one of 18 conscientious objectors currently in prison in Cyprus. All are, as far as AI is aware, Jehovah's witnesses. AI considers them to be prisoners of conscience.
