Austria: The alleged ill-treatment of Violetta J.
There is concern at reports that police on 25 April 1996 allegedly hit Violetta J., a Roma, and subjected her to racist abuse while police were in her flat looking for her husband. The information on this case comes from a statement made to the non-governmental organization Romano Centro and from medical certificates. Amnesty International is urging the authorities to investigate the alleged ill-treatment and to bring to justice anyone found responsible.
