Europe: EU-USA Summit: President Bush is arriving - Guantánamo remains - No word from EU President Schüssel? (Web Update - Closing text)
For the first time the EU Council Presidency has called for the immediate closure of the detention facilities at the US Naval Base in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. Amnesty International will build upon the statements made by the EU and US leadership during the EU-US Summit in June 2006, and will continue to call for independent investigations into human rights violations by the US authorities, and campaign against ongoing abuses in the US led "war on terror".
