Socialist Republic of Viet Nam: death penalty: Wong Chi Shing

Wong Chi Shing, a 32-year-old Hong Kong resident with a British passport, was sentenced to death on 28 May 1993 by the People’s Supreme Court in Ho Chi Minh City, on charges of smuggling five kilograms of heroin. Smuggling is a crime which carries the death penalty under Article 97 of the Criminal Code of Viet Nam.
