This paper discusses AI's concern that the death penalty may be widely used in North Korea. The authorities claim that it is rarely used but have provided no statistics about its use. However, according to reports it is widely used and there is concern that some executions are carried out in public and that defendants are not tried in accordance with international standards for fair trials.
