Further information on UA 247/94 (ASA 22/03/94, 24 June) - Japan: health concern / degrading treatment / fear of refoulement: 61 Chinese nationals, including possible asylum-seekers
On 1 July 1994 the 61 Chinese nationals were transferred to a Maritime Safety Agency vessel and sent back to the People's Republic of China. There is concern that to Amnesty Internationals' knowledge none were given either medical attention or an opportunity to apply for political asylum.
