In this petition, to the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, the signatories express their concern about the death and injury of possibly hundreds of people after police and security forces violently cracked down on protesters in Urumqi in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region in July 2009. Eyewitness accounts contradict the official version of events. Hasty trials, executions and detention without charge or trial of Uighurs provide no justice for the victims. The petition calls for an open and impartial investigation into the events.
