China: 40 Public Security and Reform-Through-Labour officers take Chen Ziming back to prison

AI is calling for the immediate and unconditional release of Chen Ziming, a veteran pro-democracy activist and prisoner of conscience who was re-imprisoned on 25 June 1995 in Beijing. He had been released on medical parole on 13 May 1995; he has been found to be suffering from skin, heart and liver ailments as well as urinary tract cancer. At the time of release, Chen Ziming had served five years of his sentence. AI has recorded at least 50 arrests of dissidents in China in the weeks surrounding June 4, the anniversary of the 1989 pro-democracy protests.
