People's Republic of China: Torture and ill-treatment / fear for safety
Ngawang Sungrab and Gyaltsen Choephel have reportedly been badly beaten following their demonstration in Tibet's Drapchi prison on 1 May 1998. Three nuns, Ngawang Sangdrol, Ngawang Choezom and Ngawang Tenzin, also serving sentences for peaceful pro-independence demonstrations are being held in solitary confinement and subjected to ill-treatment. There are also concerns for the safety of Tanak Jiigme Sangpo another prsioner who took part in the demonstration.
