China: Appeal for dissidents detained in March and April 1994
AI is concerned about the detention of several dissidents in China in recent weeks. Wei Jingsheng, one of China's most famous dissidents, was detained on 1 April 1994 and is reportedly being held incommunicado without charge. His assistant, Tong Yi, is also reported to be under investigation; it is not known where she is being held. Zhou Guoqian, a lawyer, Yuan Hongbing, a law professor and Wang Jiaqi, a law graduate, were arrested in early March 1994. Wang Jiaqi is reported to have escaped but the others remain detained. Professor Xiao Biguang was detained on 12 April.
