China: Health professional action: Hu Jia, HIV/AIDS activist

Prominent HIV/AIDS activist Hu Jia went missing on the morning of 16 February. His current whereabouts are unclear, but it is feared that he is detained by the Chinese authorities. His family have contacted various government departments to ask where he is detained, but none has admitted holding him. He reportedly suffers from hepatitis B and needs to take medication on a daily basis. Amnesty International urges the Chinese authorities to clarify Hu Jia’s whereabouts. If detained, he should be given access to appropriate medical treatment and released immediately unless he is charged with a recognisable criminal offence.
