Myanmar: Ethnic minorities: Targets of repression

This report outlines its concerns regarding ethnic minorities living in parts of the Mon, Shan and Kayin States, and in the Tanintharyi Division, and is based on interviews with refugees in Thailand during February 2001. Amnesty International is disturbed that extrajudicial killings, torture, forced labour and displacement, and extortion by the tatmadaw of ethnic minorities are continuing at such a high level of intensity. Minorities are targeted for violations purely because of their ethnicity and because of where they happen to be living.
