Amnesty International is concerned for the safety of some 14 opposition politicians and two journalists held incommunicado since 8 December. They were all arrested without a warrant, and are at risk of torture. On 6 January 2003, the High Court declared Saber Hossain Chowdhury’s illegal and ordered his immediate release. Despite this, he remains in detention and the authorities have implicated him in yet another criminal case. His current whereabouts are unknown and there are concerns for his safety.
