USA: Who are the Guantánamo detainees? Case Sheet 14: Canadian National: Omar Khadr.
Omar Khadr was taken into US custody when he was 15 years old after being wounded during a battle in Afghanistan. After detention at Bagram airbase, he was transferred to Guantánamo Bay where he has been interrogated by US and Canadian officials. The US government has classified him as an "enemy combatant". He is to be tried by military commission. This case sheet calls upon US and Canadian authorities for his release or to be given a fair trial and to ensure an independent investigation into the Canadian Government's involvement as well as other concerns about the Guantánamo detainees.
